Paris is always a good idea. – Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina

Have you seen Sabrina? Everyone always talks about Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday.  But Sabrina.  It is one of my favorites – Audrey Hepburn is incredibly lovely in it and her admiration for Paris is contagious.

‘This is what you do on your first day in Paris.  You get yourself some rain, not just a drizzle, but some honest-to-goodness rain.  Then you find yourself someone really nice and drive her through Bois de Boulogne in a taxi.  The rain’s very important. Because that’s when Paris smells its sweetest.  It’s the damp chestnut trees, you see.’ – Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina

I told Jonathan that one of the reasons I love that city is because the sky is a little gloomy. Not in a sad way.  It’s more of a whimsical way.  On our recent trip to Paris, we definitely got our fair share of some of Audrey’s ‘honest-to-goodness rain.’  It actually rained pretty much the entire time, which was a huge bummer because I had been so excited to take Jonathan to this city that I love so much.  It was his first trip and we only had a few days there, before meeting up with his family in Barcelona.  We certainly made the best of the weather and we were thankful when we had moments of clear skies.

On this quick trip, we stayed in a tiny Airbnb a couple of blocks from the Louvre.  It was the perfect location!  Although we didn’t step inside of the Louvre, we walked past it and through the gardens a few times each day.  My favorite museum in Paris is Musee D’Orsay and I just knew Jonathan would love it too.  It is filled with our favorite Impressionist painters and even the building itself is exquisite.  They were having a special Henri Rousseau exhibit and I was able to see one of his pieces that I had just seen at the MOMA in December!  It was a special moment to be able to connect two special trips, through a piece of art that I loved.

We were able to see a lot of beauty as we took in the city streets and some of the spots that make Paris so special.  Jonathan and I enjoy experiencing a culture through food + drink (+ wine!) and one of my favorite stops in Paris was Laduree.  We stopped for a break while we were shopping and had the most delightful time enjoying an omelet, tasting macarons and sipping cafe (coffee). I loved how everything was served on pastel china and real silver.   We sat outside at the Champs Elysees location and the whole experience was pure bliss.

The rain certainly tried to get us down, but we weren’t having any of it.  It did, however, leave my skin feeling a little dry and I was so glad that I packed my One Love Organics Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum.  I have really moved away from most body lotions- not just because of the ingredients and pore-clogging tendencies, but also because of the overall experience.  I have been looking for an alternative to slathering thick lotion onto already dewy skin (due to our Georgia humidity) and I was so happy to find this body serum.  It is applied as a spray (huge plus!!) and I usually spritz it all over my body, let it sink in, and use the backs of my wrists to smooth any that might still be sitting on my skin after a few minutes.  (No greasy lotiony hands!!)  The gardenia + tea scent is pure luxury and will leave me dreaming of Paris with every application.  It is also travel-friendly because the nozzle has a lock feature, which is great news for anyone is paranoid about products spilling in your suitcase (like THIS girl). It is just the right amount of moisture, without the slick effect that you get with lotion.

Our absolute favorite meal when we were in Paris was at Frenchie Bar a Vins.  This was my third time at this spot and it was just as wonderful as my other two experiences.  Frenchie Restaurant has a great reputation and can, therefore, be difficult to snag a reservation.  I always opt for Frenchie Bar a Vins, just across the street.  It is tiny, quaint and simple- with its exposed brick + beams, and limited menu.  You can walk right in, crowd around the bar for an excellent glass of wine while you wait to be seated, and soak in a little rustic French charm.  The meal is just about one of my favorite things ever and Jonathan was just as pleased.  We were so happy there and talk of it fondly.  For me, it is a must-go when in Pair-ree.

I have been so overwhelmed by all of the feedback and encouragement I have received from you all for this blog!  I wanted to create a space to talk about beauty in a new way.  We all receive so many messages about beauty from the media, which fill our thought lives and affect how we see ourselves + how we make purchases.  This blog is a place where we can have non-toxic conversations on beauty and I make recommendations for non-toxic beauty products that I love.

To celebrate, I want to GIVE something away!  You have probably heard that Nordstrom is holding their Anniversary Sale.  Over the past week, Nordstrom cardholders have had early access and today they opened the sale up to everyone!  The Anniversary Sale is unique in that Nordstrom marks down new products for the season, rather than past-season items. Nordstrom is one of my absolute favorite places to shop – they offer an amazing selection of products and have great customer service (free shipping and returns!!).  I have been thrilled that they picked up a few clean beauty brands.  Clean beauty is going mainstream and I could not be happier about it!

The GIVEAWAY is easy.  You have the chance to win a $50 NORDSTROM E-GIFTCARD!!!  I’ll send it straight to your  email inbox at 1pm on Saturday, July 23rd!!  Here’s how you enter:

  1. Follow @therosewateredit on Instagram!
  2. Tag 3 friends that are not currently following @therosewateredit that would like to learn more about clean beauty on the post of the picture you see above.
  3. Enter your email on therosewateredit.com blog to receive email updates about my posts.  (I will not give your email to anyone else!  You’ll just receive my posts in your inbox.)

I will choose the winner at random from my email addresses database and just double-check that they have tagged three buddies!  I’m so excited to gift one of you!  Just make sure you enter by NOON on Saturday, July 23rd because that’s when the contest closes!!

As for what I would do with a FREE $50 NORDSTROM E-GIFTCARD- buy clean beauty, of course!!  You get 5 free assorted samples and free shipping!  Here’s my shopping list of things I want to try and products I already own + love:

  1. I am dying to try the Jane Iredale Lip Definer in Nude.  Lip pencils are one of my favorite beauty tools and everyone needs a nude shade!  Plus, if you spend $90 on Jane Iredale products, you’ll receive 3 full-size Lip Drink Lip Balms!!
  2. I love the Jane Iredale Magic Mitt.  It is an incredibly green way to remove makeup from your face.  I wear contact lenses and I try to keep my eyes really clean- it’s great for stubborn eye makeup!   It is much more fine and gentle than an ordinary wash cloth – I never use a wash cloth on my face!
  3. Brows.  Another favorite beauty tool (coming from the woman with naturally dark brown hair and blonde eyebrows!).  A defined brow actually lends to the use of less eye makeup!!  I’ll post more on this later, but when you define your brow, it defines the total eye area and you can use less eye makeup!!  I like a brow mascara because it’s fast and anyone can do it!  I am dying to try this Jane Iredale Pure Brow in Brunette!

4. Remember this post about my love for the RMS Coconut Cream?  I use it every single day and you can find it on Nordstrom’s website!!

5. One of my next purchases will be the RMS Beauty Master Mixer.  It’s a rosegold illuminating formula that can be used as a highlighter or mixed with other products.  I can’t wait to try it on my eyelids for a summery glow!

6. I just ordered the Coola Suncare Mineral Liplux SPF 30 in Tanline for an upcoming beach weekend!  It’s being shipped to me, so I’ll let you all know what I think after I try it!  I LOVE Coola sun products and SPF is super important for my lips.  They burn so easily! Tanline is supposed to be a coral color, which will be perfect for a Charleston weekend!

Of course, you don’t have to use your $50 NORDSTROM E-GIFTCARD on beauty products! There are so many beautiful clothes, shoes + accessories on sale!  You could put the card towards the Free People Maxi Skirt that I wore to dinner in Barcelona!  It is on sale in the color Petal!

Don’t forget to enter by NOON on Saturday!  I have some exciting posts coming up for you all!  Going on a dream vacation and moving the weekend we returned was clearly not the best scenario for blog posting!  I will be posting all of my favorite things from the trip for your future travel planning, as well as sharing the products that kept me feeling great on such an active trip!
